Find out about the new boardwalk extension, habitat conservation works and the 2015 Hen Harrier Project including nest cam images of hen harriers and how you can help out recording re-sightings of tagged birds.
The hen harrier is a rare bird of prey which is a species of high conservation concern. The Slieve Blooms Mountains is designated a Special Protection Area, or SPA, on account of its breeding hen harrier population. This year work included the continuation of the wing tagging project, the installation of remote nest cameras, monitoring of breeding population and outcome, diet and foraging recording, predator management, educational awareness and the progression of an experimental farm plan. You can get involved by sending any records for tagged hen harriers using the re-sighting form.
