Department invites comments on draft Invasive Alien Species Pathway Action Plans

Date Released: Thursday, December 9, 2021

The National Parks and Wildlife Service of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has published two draft Priority Pathway Action Plans on the invasive alien species website and invites feedback stakeholders and interested parties.

These plans, for aquatic pathways, have been developed under Article 13 of the EU IAS Regulation (1143/2014). Article 26 of that Regulation provides for public participation in these plans.

Article 13 stipulates that Member States must identify priority pathways for the introduction of invasive alien species and put pathway action plans in place to mitigate the risks of introduction through these pathways. The first two such plans for Ireland are for angling and recreational boating and watercraft.

An extended period of consultation is being allowed to account for the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Consultation period is from 09 December 2021 to 01 February 2022.

Pathway Actions Plans available via the Invasives Website.
