Ballyteigue Nature Reserve

Co. Clare

Location: Situated 2 km east of Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare.

Area (ha.): 6.4
It consists of 5 parcels of wet meadow heath. These are being managed in the traditional way for hay making with the objective of maintaining them as examples of wet meadows found over the shale soils of the region.
Established in 1986. State owned.

Animals and Plants of Interest: The habitat is primarily molinia meadows (wet grassland). The Marsh Orchid is found in abundance on the site. Hare, Snipe, Common Frog and Orange Tip Butterfly can also be found on the site.

Access: Follow the Kilfenora road (R478) out of Lisdoonvarna for 2km, then turn left; the entrance to the Nature Reserve is after 100m on the left. There is no parking at the entrance,  it is necessary to continue down the road to find a safe place to park.

Caher (Murphy) Nature Reserve

Co. Clare

Location: In the Slieveaughty Mountain Range.

Area (ha.): 9
This is an area of oak wood on moist fertile soil and contains a rich ground flora.
Established in 1980. State owned.

Dromore Nature Reserve

Co. Clare

Location: 10 km north of Ennis.

Area (ha.): 370
This reserve comprises semi-natural woodland and four major wetland types. Established 28 November, 1985. State owned.

Keelhilla (Slieve Carron) Nature Reserve

Co. Clare

Location: situated in the north-east edge of the Burren plateau.

Area (ha.): 145.5
A good example of karst topography containing three distinct vegetation communities i.e. woodland, scrub grassland and pavement.
Established in 1986. State owned.
